Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Latin America Clean Energy Coalition (LACEC)?

LACEC (Latin America Clean Energy Coalition) is a regional, multi-stakeholder coalition that brings together corporate clean energy buyers, energy suppliers, financiers, and governments to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy at scale across Latin America. The coalition operates in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico, and is led by WRI, GRA, GWEC, and RE100.

Electricity demand in Latin America could grow by more than 90% by 2050, driven by industrial electrification, data centers, and manufacturing growth. Solar and wind energy are projected to represent 40% of regional electricity generation by that same year, and corporate renewable energy contracts (PPAs) already surpassed 10 GW in 2023. Companies that act today shape the market conditions of tomorrow.

LACEC currently focuses on three priority markets: Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. In each country, it operates through national working groups, market research, and direct engagement with governments and regulators to improve the conditions for corporate clean energy procurement.

LACEC works on three fronts:

  • Strategic convening: Bringing together leading companies, developers, and governments to align on a shared clean energy agenda for the region.
  • Policy and market enablement: Translating corporate demand into concrete policy recommendations for regulators and utilities.
  • Knowledge and global network: Connecting members with research, international best practices, and a global network through WRI and the LACEC Secretariat.
LACEC is open to companies that buy, sell, or finance clean energy in Latin America — both global and regional. Industry associations, research organizations, and financial institutions can also participate through different membership categories: corporate, strategic, network, knowledge, and coalition partners.
  • Country-level working groups in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico.
  • Direct influence on energy policy and regulatory frameworks across priority markets.
  • Regional and global market intelligence through WRI’s international network.
  • Visibility across LACEC’s communications and public-facing platforms.
  • Peer learning with world-leading companies on corporate clean energy strategy and industrial decarbonization.

No. While LACEC brings together global companies, it also includes regional businesses, industry associations, and local knowledge organizations with on-the-ground presence in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. The coalition values both global scale and regional market expertise equally.

These four organizations form the LACEC Secretariat:

Through national working groups and data-driven research, LACEC translates corporate energy demand into concrete recommendations for governments, regulators, and utilities in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico — building the market conditions that enable large-scale corporate procurement of clean electricity.

The LACEC Insights Hub is the coalition’s knowledge platform, bringing together policy agendas, market research, and practical resources organized at the global, regional, and country level — designed for companies, policymakers, and energy stakeholders who need actionable intelligence to advance their clean energy strategies in the region.
